A better follower ratio are the subscribers you have
Maybe this personal Substack will replace my Twitter activity
I’d rather build a following of 1k or 10k email subscribers on Substack than 100k Twitter followers.
Every week and month that passes by with Twitter I question why I’m still even there.
There’s always risk when you are the product. And when you don’t have control over the algorithm. I’ve known this, but have also tried to stay with Twitter because it’s been my townhall for so many years.
Increasingly I feel unable to.
Increasingly I care less.
Increasingly content appears in my feed that I really don’t want to see.
Increasingly I’ve been keeping in touch with what’s important to me increasingly via communities and good old RSS (try it, it works a treat).
I still have a need to randomly write down thoughts and ideas and perhaps this Substack will be the place for it. It’s becoming increasingly attractive as a solution…however I do still hold reservations about it.
Perhaps it’s not a Substack thing, it’s more of a social and constant suction in to fast flowing information. Maybe we can't escape it these days, but I still feel there's a need for calmer spaces. I already find Substack overwhelming, the amount of notification and pushes to subscribe to other people.
I wish we could have a culture of less is more.
But for now, I’m going to explore this becoming my personal space of exploration.
